In the interests of being transparent

I have implemented an "abuse filter" to prevent certain actions from being repeated that just result in pages having to be edited to remove such content later, as explained here:

The filter in question can be found here:

If it's causing issues or you need to edit a page and the edit is disallowed for whatever reason, admins can disable the filter if need be. It's a powerful tool that could screw over legitimate users if you are not very clear what is not allowed (similar to how Wikia's filters mess up perfectly good edits at times), so I tried to make the filter be very specific in what it doesn't allow to be added to pages, but if it still causes issues, disable it and let me know.

Given whom it was created for and because I figure it's less severe than having to block people, I wanted a more merciful option that wouldn't result in having to revert changes and repeatedly admonish people when we could prevent certain unacceptable content from being added at all.

If you feel I have overstepped my bounds, please disable and mark as deleted the filter in question.

That was invalid abuse filter syntax FYI. It was preventing every edit to the wiki. I've adjusted it so that it works as intended.

Thanks Void.

And Masson, this is why I intended to run this by you, as Void has proved why it's a tool that can cause problems if used incorrectly, as I did unfortunately (I'm a bit rustier than I thought using AbuseFilter, I'm going to run further ones by Miraheze Staff and you to prevent repeats).

You really think we need to prevent the name of a random internet user from being written on this wiki? He can't be mentioned on pages but it is fine if peole want to talk about him on other namespaces, I think that talking about him will eventually tire them out so they will naturally quit speaking about him.

This filter, instead, may give the opposite effect.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

It should only affect the main namespace,as in keeping names like PKMNLivesNew and UglyRat out of the articles.

Edit: Confirmed, it will ONLY effect the main namespace, and frankly, since I don't want to have to wave the banhammer and many people have had to clean up whining about the guy on pages because certain people let him live in their heads rent free, it was the only way I could think of to muzzle the problem without banhammers.

If you still feel it's counterproductive, go ahead and disable it, I'll abide by your judgment on this, this was just my solution for the problem, I could be wrong.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

If it will only affect the articles than it can stay. It will save us the time to revert such edits.
