Sent an email to Miraheze Staff asking if they allow criticism of Miraheze itself or wikis on Miraheze

Their response, courtesy of Paladox, a staff member, is the following:

"Hi, thank you for asking that! Our official position is that we respect all comments and opinions regardless of intent."

We recommend users file feature / bug reports since that is how Miraheze will improve!"

Basically, there is no need to be afraid of criticizing Miraheze as a service nor criticizing wikis here, though I recommend we add a limit that such criticism must be with reason (aka "Miraheze has issues with occasional server load" is reasonable, while "Miraheze is a crappy service because they suck" is not)

Any technical complaints we or other wikis notice should obviously be filed on Phabricator, but criticism of their service or wikis on it here is not something we should be afraid of, unlike other wiki hosting services, they believe transparency is a good thing.

With your permission, I'd like to amend policy in light of this, and draw up a provisional page for the Miraheze service in general.

At least Miraheze is fine with criticism unlike FANDOM that censors criticism and close down wikis they don't like just because.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

Do you really want to make a page about a Miraheze here? Remember that the heading here is "Why It Sucks", not a light criticism.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Hey, some things about Miraheze do legit suck, like the occasional server crapouts and caching issues.

They do try to work on that, but it's frequent enough to be an issue. Besides, I know the guys who run Miraheze, they can take a civil rebuke for things that are legit issues.

User:GethN7/sandbox - Has a rough draft, feel free to polish it if you want.

Also, if you want to criticize All The Tropes, go right ahead. We can take it, and I personally bless such criticism, keeps us from becoming TV Tropes's worst flaws if you ask me.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

I never read much of All The Tropes, I usually don't even read a lot of TV Tropes because it somehow becomes boring quickly. The only flaw the two sites share in my personal opinion is that the pages are always very opinionated. It is something that often happens on our wikis too.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

Also, you should delete the page from the main namespace for now. The page is under construction in your sandbox and there are only two negative pointers in it and the pros outnumber them, we don't accept pages with so little pointers on our wikis.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Thanks for pointing that out, have moved it back to the sandbox until it ready.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

In my opinion the page isn't good for this wiki. The negatives (especially pointer three and four, the subject of the latter being kinda understandable) are lighter than the positives aspects and the two are very balanced anyway.

The tamer headings also prove that this site isn't bad enough to be here. We don't simply criticise sites here, our purpose is to list the objectively worst sites that are on the web.

I propose to move the page to our rather unknown sister wiki Best Websites Wiki. This way your page would still be on one of our wikis, criticism included.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Fair enough, please do so whenever you find convenient.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

It still is on FANDOM. I wonder if we must use that or create another one here.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

Remember, if you won't be able to find more negatives than positives we will be unable to keep the page. It is one of the main unwritten rules of our wikis.

What? Miraheze works perfectly fine to me, other than not telling me how to add videos in this Miraheze or not letting me change the name.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

You mean changing your username?

Mar9122 (talkcontribs)

No. I meant changing the page's title. But, I already figure that out. So, I'm good.

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

If you need to know how to post videos look for a page that has them and check the source code. There you will find the correct code tag for the videos, you need to write one for each video you want to put in the page. That weird writing between the opening code and the closing code is the part of the url of the YouTube video that comes after the "=".

We can also add videos from other video sites but for now the need for that didn't arise.

Mar9122 (talkcontribs)

Well, now I know how to add videos. But, it's too bad I can't add a description about the video itself. Thanks, Mr Thief!

Masson Thief (talkcontribs)

It's my job.

GethN7, are we sure there is no way to add a description to the videos? I surely couldn't find one.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Sadly, no.

The documentation only specifies it's for embedding videos, but includes no description adding.
