From every decade's you got the toxic side of Nostalgia
Nickname: Nostalgiapurists
Nostalgiatards
Nostalgia Defenders
Type: Ignoring the flaws of the past
Status: Extremely Active

Nostalgiafreaks is the term used for people who worship anything old and attack those who are new. Due to the nature of it gets to the point that they are so many types of them on the Internet.

Why They Suck

  1. Firstly, you got these people who worship anything they like when they are younger, which is really blatantly ignoring flaws in these eras like the '80s and '90s.
  2. Arguably their biggest flaw in their mentality is their inability to accept change, indicating their adamant belief that everything should always be the same.
  3. Weak and one-sided arguments: They typically possess a declinist attitude and a rosy retrospective view of the past, exhibiting favoritism of the past while portraying modern times in a negative, exaggerated way based solely on their childhood life. This indicates blind nostalgia and one-sidedness in arguments as they are almost never aware of the problems society faced in their days; they fail to retrospectively see the problems that their times faced, solely relying on nostalgia.
  4. They also believe the world is getting worse, indicating pessimism.
  5. The Blame Game: When it comes to more smaller and specific topics, such as a TV show, they are willing to assign all blame on one person for the "decline" of something (e.g. modern SpongeBob and Sesame Street haters claiming that Paul Tibbitt and Elmo "ruined everything"). How does one person or character single-handedly "ruin everything" when things like TV shows are team efforts? This just shows that they would rather be destructive than constructive when it comes to criticism.
  6. They are willing to discriminate, bully, or disrespect anyone with a positive opinion on modern times whenever presented to them.
  7. They are rather arrogant and chauvinistic in their beliefs, not too different from any toxic fan.
  8. They are massive gatekeepers and circlejerkers, as they are found literally anywhere in most old media featured in the internet, essentially giving these media a bad name. Their gatekeeping goes to the point that they claim that "kids today won't understand the greatness of X".
  9. Every community will and can contain nostalgiatards, from music, gaming, film, even architecture and engineering.
  10. They also mostly consist of baby boomers, Generation X, and '90s millennials. Gen Z people who act this way exist, despite not even being born nor experiencing said times.
  11. They are rather blind on the fact that nowadays, classic media is readily accessible. Back then, people would waste money attempting to get cable or buy/rent physical copies; today, they can simply obtain it digitally via streaming or download.
  12. Many of them are completely blind to the flaws that their times have had, for example, the Chernobyl fallout which killed or poisoned people, the massacre in Rwanda, the deadly and devastating armed conflicts in Yugoslavia, the 1992 Los Angeles riot so violent that even the military had to stop them, the Disco Demolition Night, a domestic terrorist attack in Oklahoma City, the AIDS epidemic that killed Freddie Mercury and the suicide of Kurt Cobain (two people they worship), the false accusations of pedophilia against Michael Jackson in 1993, or 1983 North America video game crash. Bad media existed in those times as well, and most of them are largely forgotten, which further contributes to their arrogance.
    • What does not help is that the social justice warriors shove and shoehorn LGBT propaganda in television, comics, games, art or movies as much as possible, which does nothing but add even more fuel to nostalgiafreaks' arrogant drives.
  13. They have extreme double standards towards the media they like, tending to use words like "real" to define the thing they crave just to spite modern media.
  14. They can't take criticism, as they use many childish or repetitive excuses, like how life was simple in their times, media today panders to political correctness, or is a consumerist product meant to sell and make revenue (in short, cashgrab). What they also don't understand is that media isn't all about artistic value, they are also made to profit.
  15. They may have the audacity to call themselves "real fans" and act as if they speak for a dead person they treasure, such as claiming that the media is an insult to the person or that the person is spinning in their grave just because they do not like modern media.
  16. They typically have a passive-aggressive-narcissistic behavior in which they make a lot of excuses while trying to present themselves as mature and civil, in which they usually fail.
  17. Speaking of narcissism, they tend to feel special and seaquestered about what they like just because they either grew up with or (if they were born recently) started liking classic media, and so, they often brag out their liking of that media and disparaging modern media in an obnoxious, pretentious way, almost completely ignorant of the fact that a majority of today's youth mostly knew and even liked these older media due to their lasting appeal and/or pop culture presence.
    • Speaking of which, there's a small group of nostalgiatards who brag about obscure classic media (i.e. Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Wars), making them borderline hipsters.
  18. Due to how numerous they are, they managed to stain the classic entertainment communities.
  19. A selected portion of them are preschool show haters.
  20. It's no surprise that many of them are obsessive anti-SJWs, moral guardians and religious nut-jobs always exhibiting declinist behaviour towards today's society.
    • Speaking of declinist attitudes, some wish death upon today's celebrities or well-known figures (such as Justin Bieber or Dwayne Johnson) or wish destruction upon modern corporations or studios (such as post-2000s Disney, EA, or Sony Pictures Animation) just because of how radically they practice media today compared to then, usually bringing up greed, consumerist practices or political pandering as reasons.
      • On the other hand, they will magnify childhood celebrities like they were literal gods (such as Clint Eastwood, Freddie Mercury, the Beatles) or companies/studios (like pre-2010s Disney, Nintendo or pre-2000s Sega) as if their lives depend on them, but instantly turn their backs on them the moment they do things they don't like, like revealing their political stances.
  21. Adding to the previous point, whenever a celebrity they magnify has passed away, such as Jim Henson, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, or Chester Bennington, they demand God to resurrect them and wish death on modern celebrities like Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black.
  22. Speaking of these, they completely ignore that celebrities or companies they cherish have mostly no qualms with modern celebrities or media and may even befriend them, enjoy their works, as well as getting involved in said media (such as Elton John working with Lady Gaga or Martin Scorsese still making films with modern actors). They often ignore that classic can work well with modernity if done right.
    • If they do find out, they typically act ungrateful and butthurt and act like they own these people or companies, which easily exposes their elitist and gatekeeping nature, showing that they do not speak for these people/companies, or their work.
  23. The younger subset of nostalgists often shout that they were born in the wrong generation, which can get rather annoying.
  24. Because of their never-ending elitism, they not only give shame to reasonable people who like older stuff (as well as respecting modern stuff), but they have made complete stereotypes of themselves and have since spawned content mocking them, such as r/lewronggeneration and "OK boomer".
  25. They also brag about the technology of their times, and hate smartphones, computers and other high-tech objects. They stereotype millennials as people addicted to internet culture or phones and act like they're worse than drug addicts, which just basically exhibits declinism towards the youth.
  26. They are huge hypocrites, complaining about internet culture and modern times using the internet itself, contradicting themselves.
  27. They've been known to use annoying complaints which had turned into stereotypes, such as "back in my day", "When X used to be", "Kids today", and "They don't make X like this anymore".
  28. These people span across generations, since the dawn of man. It is likely that this cycle will never end as Gen Z has recently shown rosy retrospective attitude.
  29. The worst offender was that nostalgiafreaks can be adult themselves and always think the 50s, 60s, or 70s are the best, pridefully ignorant of the worst event like Vietnam War, the death of John F. Kennedy, and a few other things.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Nostalgia itself is not a bad thing, as there are people who lean towards nostalgia and older times, yet try to give credit where credit is due on modern topics.

People seemly doesn't care that 80s games aren't that great because of the infamous event like the Atari shock. Think about it. Nintendo was viewed as superior to the Atari and proved that Japanese technology has had became prominent for the world.

Having to experience playing NES games due to being born in 1981, I agree with you. In fact today's video games is a huge improvement and better then the 80's. Although I still play old school games, I even newer games that originated from the 80's such as Zelda.

Anyone who uses Gamefaq or other sites like this? Oh really? Interesting how this page make it looks like being a Nostalgiafreak is a bad thing. So entering gamefaq is wrong? I may be fond of the past but I like to keep up with the times, aviod thinking that times gets worst or thinking the past is flawless.

I'm aware of how the past is full of shit and not always a good place. I like some aspect of the past, played decade old games, read old things or hear old music or watch old movies or shows but being born in 1981 and went through the 90's, I can be nostalgic but I don't say things are better back then and everything today is all shit.

I think today is better then yesterday with normal nostalgic mentality.

I'm a diehard fan of SMG4 and you know the modern haters had to be on here. Like I kid you not, there was one instance where I mentioned liking modern SMG4 in spite of its flaws and someone automatically called me a "simp that should go rape on his own side", showing they're not only nostalgia circlejerks, but also racist bullies as well. Some users I've seen even make threats such as telling modern fans to "kill themselves" for an opinion. The classic nostalgiaturds may have had their "golden age" in the early 2010s period, but that doesnt make them any better than say a grumpy old man who said he had it better back in the 60s. Same mentality.

I'm not a nostalgiafreak, as I like both new and old things. For example, yesterday, I came across a series called "Sharr alnofoos" (شر النفوس, Evil Souls) that came from my country, and it was a god awful mishmash of messed-up situations that will make you lose your sanity. Not because it's new, but because of these:

- The environment, especially in houses, is too grey, too black, or too blue, despite color corrections.

- The characters are complete idiots who are over-emotional. They always argue with each other, cry for no reason, murder people, and do everything they can to cause trouble or massacre.

- For example, a bald man who has a long beard fought with another man who has a short beard in the house, and a woman came to stop them. Instead of separating them and asking them why, she continuously hit the non-bald man, which is delusional.

- Another one is that when the cops came (ones with green outfit), they said something about Lama(?), and a woman went ahead crying hysterically, which made a non-bald man feel surprised and run to her to comfort her.

- Yet another one is that the men went to the house to fight, and ended up killing one of them, while women do nothing to stop them and just gasp and stand there watching like sadistic maniacs. The way it was presented made me feel like I really was watching a creepypasta!

- The plot is very weak and nonexistent to the point that nobody will understand what problem they're trying to solve.

I'm going to watch today's episode to see if it has exactly the same problem. I swear if it airs in Ramadan...

But really, these nostalgiafreaks really need to stop hating on new shows for them being new or for weak excuses.

I don't think most modern stuff are terrible, but I do have good reason why some of them are, not because it's new, but its overall quality. Even if I did grow up with old-fashioned stuff, I still grew up with some modern stuff in which I did enjoy. Hell, I think most modern music are still as catchy as the music in the last decade, and some singers even improved themselves. It's kinda sad how they pre-judge most modern stuff without even giving it a try, and don't attack me for this.

I don't see why Alpha Jay is listed as a nostalgiatard. Why is that? I have watched his channel since the day I subscribed, and I haven't seen one video where he acts like one or admits he is one. I don't know, I just don't get it.
